Flatiron Building opens its doors to residents for the first time after historic conversion

New York City’s famed Flatiron Building has officially welcomed its first residents in its 124-year history, following a historic conversion into condos. 6sqft had it in the last few hours.

The Brodsky Organization announced last week that closings have begun at the distinctive triangular building at 175 Fifth Avenue, with residents starting to move into the landmark for the first time following its transformation from offices to 36 homes. The property underwent an extensive, multi-year restoration, including the replacement of all its windows and the careful restoration of thousands of terra-cotta fixtures.

This is one newsroom’s account so far. The claim stays inside what 6sqft actually reported.

For buyers and sellers in New York, Miami, and Tampa, “Flatiron Building opens its doors to residents” is the fact to set next to the comps. Read the original before anyone turns it into a pricing opinion. It belongs in the conversation about a specific building or neighborhood, not as a script for a listing appointment.

Also this morning: “On Nantucket, a New Home Treads Lightly.” The New York Times reports: Will Kinsella built a modest house on the storybook land of his youth, making good on his commitment to honor the terrain in the process.

What is still open is whether “Flatiron Building opens its doors to residents” changes a showing or an offer this week, or whether the story is already old by the time the comps are pulled.
